Air Canada is launching five new international destinations and boosting service on several existing routes for the summer 2027 season. The expansion, announced Thursday, includes new flights to cities in Europe and Asia from its major hubs in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.

Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s executive vice president, chief commercial officer, and president of cargo, framed the move as historic. "Summer 2027 marks the most extensive intercontinental expansion in Air Canada’s history, cementing our position as the second largest North American carrier by global destinations served," he said in a statement. Galardo added that the airline is investing to better connect Canada as an intersection for international travel and commerce.

New Route Details and Schedule

The five destinations new to Air Canada's network are Guangzhou, Oslo, Shannon, Basel, and Dubrovnik. The airline provided a full schedule for the incoming services.

All the new European routes are seasonal, while the Vancouver-Guangzhou connection will operate year-round.

Enhancements to Existing Services

Beyond the new cities, Air Canada is significantly increasing capacity on several established routes. Service between Toronto and Shanghai will increase to a daily frequency. The upcoming Toronto to Guatemala City route, set to launch in December of this year, will be extended from a seasonal to a year-round operation.

From Montreal, seasonal services to Tenerife in Spain, Lima in Peru, and Guatemala City will all become year-round flights.

Fleet and Special Service Return

The expansion is being help by new aircraft. Air Canada officials stated that the new routes and added flights are made possible with the addition of Airbus A321XLR aircraft and newer widebody jets to its fleet.

A unique service is also slated for a comeback. Air Canada will resume its Toronto-London "Day-tripper" service, which involves a morning departure from Toronto and an evening arrival in London. The airline already flies between Toronto and London Heathrow but did not specify a restart date for this particular flight pattern.

The network growth focuses on connecting Canada's primary hubs with major tourism and business centers across the Atlantic and in Asia.
