American Airlines to open largest Admirals Club lounge at Charlotte hub
American Airlines will build a new 40,000-square-foot Admirals Club at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, making it the largest in its network.

American Airlines announced plans to open the largest Admirals Club lounge in its network at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The new lounge will span more than 40,000 square feet upon completion, surpassing the airline's Dallas location.
The facility will feature modern amenities including spa-style shower suites, bars and serveries, and dedicated areas for relaxation, dining, work, and recharging. Its design draws inspiration from Charlotte’s tree canopy, textile heritage, and blend of modern sophistication with southern charm. The new Admirals Club will be located on the mezzanine level of the main atrium, accessible from concourses A, B, C, and D.
Hub significance and access
CLT is American Airlines' second-largest hub, connecting millions of passengers to more than 180 destinations in 27 countries. At peak times, American offers over 650 daily flights from Charlotte.
Access to the Admirals Club is available through several methods. Customers can purchase a One-Day Pass for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage® miles, valid for 24 hours. Other options include membership, qualifying oneworld status, or holding the Citi/AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard for domestic U.S. travel. Citi/AAdvantage Globe Mastercard holders receive four Admirals Club Globe passes, each valid for 24 hours.
American's two existing CLT Admirals Club locations will remain open during the construction period.
Context and customer experience
The expansion addresses current lounge conditions. Two existing Admirals Club locations in Charlotte are described as dated and often overrun with guests. This new facility is an all-new build, not a renovation of existing spaces.
Heather Garboden, American Airlines' Chief Customer Officer, stated, "Designing a lounge that gives our customers more space to relax, work and recharge is our top priority." Ralph Lopez Massas, Senior Vice President of CLT Operations, added that the lounge is "set to become the largest lounge in our global network at one of our most connected hubs."
This project is part of a broader lounge investment strategy at CLT that American outlined in 2023. The airline has also recently opened a permanent grab-and-go outpost called Provisions by Admirals Club on the A concourse. Current lounge spaces, including the Provisions lounge near Gate A1 and Admirals Club lounges in Concourse B and Concourse C/D, will remain open during construction.
Charlotte is seeing a surge in lounge development. Alongside American's three new facilities, a Capital One Lounge, a second American Express outpost, and Delta's Sky Club opened less than two years ago are also coming to the airport. American has not provided guidance on which current lounges will remain open after the new flagship facility opens.
The new lounge will be a modest walk from concourse D and a longer hike from the E-gates. Construction is set to begin later this year on the new mezzanine-level lounge accessible from concourses A, B, C, and D.
