Cabins: JetBlue's new BlueFirst cabin will feature lie-flat seats, seatback ordering, and premium meals

JetBlue has revealed the first details of its inaugural first-class cabin, named BlueFirst. The airline announced specifics this week, including seat specifications, onboard amenities, and premium services.

BlueFirst seats will be arranged in a two-by-two configuration. They offer five inches of recline and provide up to seven inches more legroom than the airline's standard Main cabin seats. For comfort, the seats incorporate Tuft & Needle's T&N Flex foam.

Each seat is equipped with a 13.3-inch entertainment screen featuring Bluetooth connectivity. Passengers will also have access to built-in USB-A, USB-C, and 110VAC power ports for charging devices.

Onboard Dining and Service

Meals can be ordered directly through the seatback screens. JetBlue says its menu will include options like sweet or savory crepes and sesame noodles with beef or tofu, alongside premium snacks. The airline did not provide a full menu.

On flights of 899 miles or longer, a BlueFirst meal will include an entrée, a side, and a dessert. Wine selections will be chosen by a sommelier, and specialty coffee will be available. A unique "mixologist mode" on the screen will allow passengers to design their own cocktails by selecting spirits, mixers, and flavorings.

For overnight flights, passengers will receive a blanket and an amenity kit.

Ground and Boarding Benefits

All BlueFirst customers will receive several pre-flight benefits. These include Group 1 boarding, dedicated overhead bin space, and priority check-in. Travelers will also have access to an expedited security lane at more than 30 airports.

Product Context and Launch

BlueFirst represents JetBlue's first traditional first-class product. The airline's premium niche has previously been filled by its Mint business class, offered on select transcontinental and international routes.

JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty explained the rationale in a news release. "Customers are increasingly looking for more premium experiences," she said. "BlueFirst gives them an elevated experience that feels distinctly JetBlue, with thoughtful touches, caring service, and great value."

The airline has already reorganized its fare system for seat classes ahead of the launch. BlueFirst is expected to debut sometime later this year.
