KLM to offer free Starlink Wi-Fi on long-haul flights from mid-2027
KLM will provide complimentary high-speed Starlink internet to FlyingBlue members on all long-haul flights starting mid-2027.

KLM will provide free high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi on its long-haul flights for FlyingBlue members starting in mid-2027. The airline announced the move on 8 October 2026, confirming a phased rollout across all cabin classes on intercontinental routes.
Access requires membership in the free Flying Blue loyalty programme. Non-members can register before departure or via the onboard portal. The unlimited service will support browsing, email, streaming, and video calls. KLM Chief Executive Marjan Rintel stated the intercontinental rollout fulfills a long-standing passenger wish. "We are making a long-standing wish of our passengers a reality: fast, free Wi-Fi on intercontinental flights starting in mid-2027," Rintel said.
Technical shift ends KLM’s long-haul reliance on legacy satellite provider
KLM’s long-haul fleet currently uses the SES 2Ku satellite system, a solution it has operated for nearly a decade. The airline selected Starlink for its low latency and superior coverage over oceans and remote routes. This transition ends KLM's position as a notable holdout among major European airlines regarding Starlink adoption. The carrier's single-aisle European fleet is not required to switch, having offered complimentary Viasat-powered internet since early 2026.
Royal Air Maroc joins growing list of airlines adopting Starlink fleet-wide
Royal Air Maroc intends to deploy Starlink across its entire fleet. It is the first Africa-based airline to choose Starlink as a supplier. The carrier announced its decision via social media posts. The announcement did not indicate whether the service would be free for passengers. For both KLM and Royal Air Maroc, the vast majority of routes should fall within Starlink’s service area.
Broader industry trend shows accelerating Starlink adoption
KLM’s shift aligns with its partner Air France, which is rolling out Starlink fleet-wide. The combined commitments from KLM and Royal Air Maroc add more than 100 aircraft to Starlink’s installation backlog. They join a fast-growing list of global carriers activating or selecting the service.
Recent announcements include Korean Air/Asiana and VietJet. Major Middle Eastern carriers Qatar Airways and Emirates have also begun installations. Starlink’s service area coverage remains a technical challenge, but most airlines appear undeterred. KLM will begin offering free high-speed Wi-Fi on its intercontinental flights from mid-2027.
