Citi's AAdvantage Executive and Globe cards
The Points Guy compares two American Airlines cobranded credit cards, the AAdvantage Executive and AAdvantage Globe, detailing their annual fees, welcome

Two premium credit cards for American Airlines flyers are currently on offer from Citi. The Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard carries a $695 annual fee, while the Citi / AAdvantage Globe Mastercard costs $350 per year. The Points Guy analyzed both to determine which card suits different types of travelers.
A key difference lies in the welcome bonuses. For a limited time, new AAdvantage Executive cardholders can earn 125,000 bonus miles after spending $15,000 in the first five months. According to The Points Guy's valuations, these miles are worth $1,813. The AAdvantage Globe offers 60,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first three months, a bonus valued at $870.
Welcome bonus and spending
| Card | Welcome Bonus | Spending Requirement | Valuation (TPG) |
|---|---|---|---|
| AAdvantage Executive | 125,000 miles | $15,000 in 5 months | $1,813 |
| AAdvantage Globe | 60,000 miles | $4,000 in 3 months | $870 |
The Executive's bonus is significantly larger but requires much higher spending. Cardholders are ineligible for a welcome bonus if they have earned one on the same card in the past 48 months.
Benefits and lounge access
Lounge access is a major differentiator. The AAdvantage Executive card includes a full complimentary Admirals Club membership. This membership, if purchased separately, would cost almost $1,000 more. The AAdvantage Globe provides four Admirals Club day passes per year.
Giselle Gomez, TPG's managing editor for credit cards, recently used AAdvantage miles for a family trip. She booked a round-trip flight between Phoenix and Miami for 16,000 miles.
Day-of-travel perks are similar but not identical. The Executive provides Group 4 boarding, while the Globe offers Group 5. The Globe also includes a free first checked bag on domestic American Airlines flights.
Statement credits vary. The Globe offers an annual "Splurge" credit. The Executive provides credits for American Airlines Vacations purchases, inflight spending, and Lyft rides. The Lyft credit requires three rides in a month to trigger a $15 statement credit.
Earning rewards and chasing status
The cards have different earning structures. The AAdvantage Globe offers more bonus categories for everyday spending. The AAdvantage Executive earns only one additional point per dollar on American Airlines purchases unless annual spending exceeds $150,000.
Both cards earn 1 Loyalty Point per dollar spent, aiding status qualification. However, the Executive provides a 10,000-Loyalty Point boost after reaching four spending thresholds in a status year. The Globe offers 5,000 Loyalty Points for every four qualifying American Airlines flights, up to 15,000 per year.
Redemption options are identical for both cards. Neither offers exclusive redemption bonuses.
Cardholders can hold both the Executive and Globe cards simultaneously. This would make them eligible for two separate welcome offers, useful for accumulating miles quickly. It is also possible to call Citi to upgrade or downgrade between the two cards, though this action does not make the cardholder eligible for a new welcome bonus.
The final recommendation hinges on travel habits. The Executive card is best for frequent Admirals Club visitors or those aggressively pursuing AAdvantage status. The Globe is sufficient for travelers seeking easier-to-use credits and broader bonus categories for everyday spending.
