Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has confirmed details for its new flagship lounge at Copenhagen Airport. The facility is scheduled to open in June 2027 on the fourth floor of Terminal 3 at the airline's primary hub.
Scale and capacity of the new lounge revealed
The new lounge will be a substantial expansion of the current offering. It will cover 3,700 square metres, providing roughly 40% more space. Capacity is designed for up to 4,000 visitors daily.
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Total area | 3,700 square metres (approx. 40,000 sq ft) |
| Size increase vs. Current lounge | Approximately 40% larger |
| Daily visitor capacity | Up to 4,000 guests |
| Seating capacity | 1,095 seats |
Facilities and zones designed for work, rest, and refreshment
Passenger flow will be managed with digital occupancy monitoring. The interior will be organized into distinct zones. These include Eat & Drink, Social, Family, Focus, Relax, Silent Relax, and Sleep areas.
The lounge will contain 24 private work pods. It will also feature an expanded number of showers and restrooms. For passengers on longer connections, private hotel rooms for sleeping will be available. Selected furniture from the existing lounge will be reused in the new space.
Food, drink, and premium experiences highlighted
Food and beverage offerings are a central focus. A bakery will provide freshly prepared pastries and snacks throughout the day. Barista-prepared coffee will be available, building on a popular feature from the current lounge. A staffed bar will serve drinks and signature SAS cocktails.
An exclusive zone will be reserved for SAS's highest-tier frequent flyers. This area is designed to offer a more premium experience within the larger lounge complex.
Design, sustainability, and strategic context outlined
The design aims for a bright, spacious, and unmistakably Scandinavian feel. It will incorporate high ceilings, natural light, and warm wood finishes. Panoramic views over the airport runways will be a key feature, particularly for aviation enthusiasts. Sustainable elements will include the use of recycled SAS textiles.
The project is part of SAS's wider investment in Copenhagen as its main hub. It follows the return of European business class travel and upgrades to partner lounges. The current facility was designed for a smaller airline with less ambitious hub plans. Paul Verhagen, SAS Chief Commercial Officer, linked the lounge to the carrier's broader strategy. "As passenger numbers grow and we strengthen Copenhagen as our main hub, this lounge reflects our ongoing development," Verhagen said.
The new lounge represents a significant upgrade to support the airline's hub strategy amid growing demand.
