American Airlines has enhanced the food and service at its Flagship Lounge in Dallas-Fort Worth. The improvements include a higher-quality buffet, better-staffed presentation, and a new sit-down dining option where made-to-order meals are delivered to tables in four minutes.

Lounge Access and Initial Impressions

The author accessed the lounge using Royal Jordanian Gold status, which is accepted for entry even on U.S. Domestic flights. Upon arriving on a Tuesday around 5 p.m., the lounge was not overly crowded, though it was noted that traffic increases later in the week. The lounge entrance featured a display for Bollinger champagne.

Upgraded Food Presentation and Options

The most notable changes were in the food service. The overall presentation was reported to be much better than it was just a few weeks prior. Key improvements included a staffed charcuterie station to maintain order, the continued operation of a chef action station, and better-prepared items like seafood crepes. The author specifically visited the dedicated dining room area, where QR codes on tables allow passengers to order from a new sit-down menu.

The New Made-To-Order Dining Experience

American's new sit-down dining concept is currently limited to a specific seating area within the lounge to manage kitchen volume and costs. The author tried this service and reported that the made-to-order items delivered to the table were of "pretty good quality." A standout detail was the speed of service, with the meal arriving just four minutes after ordering.

The report contrasts this new offering with the airline's previous First Dining rooms, which were a more exclusive experience. First Dining is now being opened to all business class passengers, which the author suggests will change its character as a "refuge." The new Flagship Dining is set to expand to Miami and Los Angeles when that lounge reopens later this year.

Lounge Competitive Context

American's Flagship Lounges have been operating for about a decade, predating Delta's Delta One lounges. They have historically been accessible to a wide range of passengers, including those on premium transcontinental routes and oneworld mid-tier elites flying coach internationally. The author notes that while the quality of Delta One lounges may still exceed that of American's or United's business lounges, the gap at the Dallas Flagship Lounge has narrowed significantly with these recent upgrades. The best lounge experience, however, is still largely dependent on how busy it is at the time of visit.
